Dr. Jamila Riser is a thirty-seven year veteran of Delaware’s educational system. She joined the Delaware Mathematics Coalition as the organization’s Executive Director (ED) in January of 2007. In her role as ED, she has led back-to-back federally and state funded projects and supports the organization’s mission and vision by providing high quality professional learning experiences and systems-level thought partner support to DE teachers, coaches, specialists and administrators.

Jamila is a former District Teacher of the Year for the Lake Forest School District, received the Stars of Delaware Award, and was a recipient of the University of Delaware G. Cuthbert Webber Award. The award is given to a member of the mathematics education community for their distinguished service in advancing mathematics education. Jamila loves doing math, is passionate and energized by her work, and is committed to addressing issues of equity and access in mathematics. She is the author of a chapter in NCTM’s 74th Yearbook Professional Collaborations Around Teaching and Learning, a co-author of “Teacher Discourse Moves: Supporting Productive and Powerful Discourse” (2014), and presents annually at local and national conventions and conferences. Outside of work, Jamila enjoys playing games, grappling with math problems, cooking, cleaning, gardening, and most of all, spending time together with friends and family.
