Facilitator & Connector

Delaware Mathematics Coalition

Dr. Jen Bonham joins the Delaware Mathematics Coalition’s Professional Teaching & Learning Team as a thirty-year veteran of the public school system. During her career as a K-12 educator, Jen served as a mathematics teacher and instructional coach in the Colonial District. Her most recent role before retiring included supporting both students and teachers as a Math Instructional Coach at McCullough Middle School. She received her doctorate in 2018 from the University of Delaware. Her dissertation was focused on the use of formative assessment in the mathematics classroom.

Jen is passionate about making mathematics accessible for all learners. A big part of that is recognizing where the students are in the learning process and making decisions that help them make productive progress towards the intended learning goal of the lesson. Prior to becoming an instructional coach, Jen spent twenty-two years as a secondary mathematics teacher. She taught everything from sixth grade mathematics (at George Read Middle School) to AP Statistics (at William Penn High School). She was honored as Colonial’s Middle School Teacher of the Year in 1999 and Colonial’s High School Teacher of the Year in 2009. She is excited to join the Delaware Mathematics Coalition’s Professional Teaching & Learning Team and will be serving as a Connector/Coach in the organization’s National Science Foundation’s UD partnership grant. She also works as an Adjunct for Wilmington University where she teaches Inferential Statistics and Mathematics for Teacher 2 courses.
