Philip Wandless has been an educator for 18 years, spending 13 years as an 8th grade math teacher and for the past 5 years as the Smyrna School Districts K-12 Instructional Mathematics Specialist.  During his time in the classroom Philip was the 8th grade mathematics Professional Learning Committee Leaders, nominated for teacher of the year, was awarded district teacher of the year through the VFW of Smyrna, and co-authored an article for the NCTM, Rough-Draft Talk in Mathematics Classroom.  Portions of the paper were later republished in a book titled Rough Draft Math by Dr. Amanda Jansen.  Philip has been a part of the Delaware Math Coalition as a participant for the past 16 years and is currently on the Board as the Kent County representative.

Before becoming an educator, Philip worked for the Division of Family Services as a youth care worker supporting emotionally disturbed youth with the Delaware Child Mental Health programs.  This furthered his career into work as an investigator for allegations of child abuse and neglect. This background work in social services and the criminal justice system led him to have a passion for education, thus pursuing his education career.

Outside of work, Philip is married and recently celebrated his 28th year anniversary.  His wife is currently a NICU nurse in Dover, Delaware.  They have two boys Jacob and Noah.  Jacob is an officer, 2nd lieutenant in the United States Space Force and Noah is currently studying Environmental Science attending the University of Delaware.  Philip likes to landscape, run, participate in crossfit, and sail.  He has completed 7 marathons and multiple half marathons and 5ks.  He is part of a sailing team that participates in racing from May 1 to the end of November, off the Lewes Delaware coast.  Philip grew up in Vermont, but now lives in Delaware where he finished high school and college.  He enjoys the mountains, but has come to love the beach.
