Thomas Becker is a highly regarded teacher leader in the MOT Charter School District. His participation in Delaware Mathematics Coalition (DMC) partnership projects began when he first started teaching sixteen years ago. Over the years, he has continued to grow as a mathematics teacher, coach, and as a mentor to mathematics and science colleagues. He has been recognized by the state as Charter School Teacher of the Year and as a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Mr. Becker is a workshop leader for the Delaware Mathematics Coalition’s New Normal PBL Academy, led sessions as part of his involvement in the TRU-Math and Leadership Coaching Lab projects, and presented at the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) Conference. Tom also traveled to Thailand with a DMC team to facilitate a large-scale curriculum-based effort designed to promote problem based pedagogies in high school teachers’ classrooms. The effort was funded by Chevron, Kenan Asia, and Activate Learning. His research interests include addressing issues of status and agency in the mathematics classroom and expanding the use of video analysis as a vehicle for improving teaching in his high school.
