What educators are saying about our programs
Our Average rating is 5 stars
5/5
“I have found a community that truly connects critical mathematics education research to concrete practice. We reflect on content in a way that deepens my own understanding and connections of important mathematical ideas, discuss pedagogical moves that we can use to encourage student thinking and agency within our classrooms, and focus on how we can become better teacher leaders in our building.”

“The opportunity for new teachers to be a part of the same training with experienced teacher leaders and coaches is a unique and powerful opportunity that exemplifies the type of equity across a learning community that is a foundational focal component of the training.”

“I have really loved the focus and analysis of video during these sessions. I feel like I have developed a critical eye toward teaching that will be essential to improving my practice.”

“5 out of 5 stars! EMTL has helped me solidify my understanding of fractions, decimals and proportions. The conversations were so helpful in building a deeper understanding of the math.
I LOVE THAT MATH & MATH WORK WAS THE FOCUS OF EVERY DAY!”

“This was AWESOME! My high school trig teacher told my class I was ‘not smart enough’ to have solved a challenging problem correctly on my own. Today, I was able to own this math, see how context can be added to make sense of the mathematics, and see how empowered my kids can feel!”

“Whoa....functions have always been a huge struggle for me. I have really progressed in my understanding of the definition and how to write, apply, and understand functions. If you had shown me the day 3 problems on day 1, I never would have believed I would be able to understand how to approach problem solving around complex functions. I have come such a long way in these 3 days!”

"What I value most about Math Camp is the relationships I made and fostered at Camp. I so admire all of the teachers that took part in our math camp. I was hesitant at first to jump into the math - especially math that I was a bit rusty with - but the group dynamics quickly pushed these feelings aside. I immediately felt supported by others and I was encouraged to keep trying and 'playing'. When I shared thoughts that I thought were elementary - others got excited and asked more about my thinking. By the end of the week, I had no worries of inferiority and openly discussed my thoughts - right or wrong. It was amazing how connected I felt to how my students may feel in the math classroom and how critical it is to break these walls down for my students".

"I love that I am surrounded by people who accept me for where I am at in my journey as a math teacher and thinker. I also love the way my colleagues at Math Camp challenge me to reflect on my practices and beliefs. I always leave feeling inspired and supported."

"I feel like I went from having enough information to fill a small room, and by the end I could fill a warehouse, my mind is going a mile a minute. I am so excited to implement what I learned here into my daily routine."

"I think that Math Camp has helped me the most in giving more students access to engage in the math content. It feels like giving students the vocabulary of their rights as learners and rough draft thinking encourages students who might not normally share to do so and allows for a safe space to share ideas, challenge each others thinking, and make mistakes as we learn together."
Math Camp Participant2020
"Math Camp has changed the way that I think about teaching math and the beliefs I hold about learning mathematics. I think the skills and strategies (as well as take-aways from discussions) carry over into how I try to get all students thinking about math and ways to access it. I believe that Math Camp has helped challenge status issues in my classroom as well."

"Math Camp, and the supporting Professional Development over the course of the school year, has given me the tools and the vocabulary to build better lessons for my students, and challenge other educators to do the same. Encouraging my colleagues to join this group because of how transformative this experience has been for me is only natural."
Math Camp Participant2020
"Math Camp helped me develop my own beliefs about teaching math. I love that not all of us have the same EXACT beliefs, but we are encouraged to build our own thoughts and support them with reasoning and evidence. This has given me the confidence to speak to others and help them reflect on their classrooms. It has given me the tools to be a successful leader - one that supports teachers and helps them think for themselves rather than tells them what to do and suppresses them"

"I am so thankful for the way Delaware takes care of its teachers, and am even more appreciative for the way the DMC supports Delaware’s math teachers."

"This community has not only shaped and supported by beliefs and practices as a teacher, but now as a math coach I can pay it forward by supporting the growth and development of other teachers. The continued connection with other math leaders (teachers, coaches and admin) also keeps me grounded on what's most important in the work that I do back in my district."

"I honestly learned so much the past three days. I love being able to create my own activities or edit existing ones to better fit the needs of my students, or what I want to assess. I already have a million different ideas of how I can use these activities in my classes whether it's a warm-up, formative quiz, intro activity, or something to do if I'm absent that is more interactive than just a worksheet! I also had no idea before that Desmos could graph histograms and boxplots and calculate five number summaries. This is a huge game changer for my CP stats class this fall! Thank you so much!!"

"Desmos is a game changer. It has improved my ability to creatively and interactively deliver instruction to my students."

"The most important components of the post lesson debrief are inviting the teacher to reflect on student learning connected to the learning goals and the critical moments in the lesson. Powerful day!! So glad to be a part of this very educative work!"
